More Scintillating Science Fiction

A bit ago, we posted some sci-fi novels that Zara has loved, but here are some others that didn’t make that list!

  • Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi: Truth be told, Zara didn’t read this book until the pandemic because fae was working on a sci-fi romance trilogy of faer own, and was scared of accidentally being influenced by another fictional world. But this book had been on our founder’s TBR list for forever. And it was a lot of fun!
  • Across the Universe by Beth Revis: Just like the previous book on this list, Zara did not read this until the Stellar Blood trilogy was already out. The cover has since been updated, but this silhouette one caught Zara’s attention forever ago and our founder very quickly followed the author on social media—which is a great source of entertainment on its own. But it was worth the wait!
  • A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray: This cover is just more proof that our founder is essentially a crow – fae likes pretty and shiny things, especially when it comes to book covers. By the time Zara read this title, fae hadn’t read (or watched) Cloud Atlas or Orphan Black but Google is right when they say, “Cloud Atlas meets Orphan Black in this epic dimension-bending trilogy by New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray about a girl who must chase her father’s killer through multiple dimensions.” It was an exhilarating book.
  • Hail Mary by Andy Weir: This book was long. And not read in a single sitting like Zara tends to do because of time constraints in faer’s busy schedule (it takes a lot of hours to run Inimitable Books!) This book was actually only picked up thanks to the regular and repetitive recommendation from Ben Carlin of the SuperCarlinBrothers because Zara hadn’t had time to pick up The Martian, but was excited to read a book by Andy Weir—because he’s said to be very specific and accurate in the science in his fiction.
  • The Infinity Courts by Akemi Dawn Bowman: Zara read this a little before the AI conversation had blown up as much as it has since this book’s publication in 2021, but people were definitely talking about it for its effect on writing and artists’ work. The cover grabbed Zara’s attention and its being featured on an Epic Reads recommendation list made our founder excited to read this. Since reading the book, fae has learned that All Systems Red had similar story elements (as do many other science fiction stories), but Zara is glad to have read this book first.
  • Girls with Sharp Sticks by Suzanne Young: By the time Zara read this, the title, cover, and feminist themes of this book made Zara very eager to read this book. It reminded Zara of books that fae had read earlier in teen and childhood years of purported utopias being revealed as actual dystopias. We do have a list of dystopian fiction, if you’re interested in that, too.
