Hello friends! Because I hate recipe posts where you have to scroll through miles of content before you get to the recipe, the recipe is right here, but keep reading if you want to learn more about why I made some of the choices for this signature drink.
Ingredients
- 1 oz whiskey bourbon
- 2 oz peach schnapps
- 1 oz apple bourbon
- 3 oz mango peach or mango tangerine juice
- a splash grenadine (measure by your heart)
- edible glitter (optional)
- 1 maraschino cherry (for garnish)
Instructions
Mix whiskey, schnapps, bourbon and juice in a shaker and shake over ice. Optionally, you can add some edible glitter for the aesthetic.
Strain and pour into a glass of your choice.
Add splash of grenadine into your glass and garnish with a maraschino cherry
Enjoy!
If you want to make a non-alcoholic version, add some apple juice to the mango and then continue on from step 3.
And that’s the drink. If you make one of your own, let me know what you think, and tag me in any photos of your recreations. And please, make sure to drink responsibly.
In The Legionnaire, food is mostly fuel for the soldiers, especially since so much of their lives revolve around staying fit and training to run missions. But Saiden always manages to take a moment to appreciate her food, especially when it comes to fruit, so I knew I wanted to start with a fruity base. I love this mango juice separately, so that made sense to me to use as a mixer. Layer in the peach schnapps and crisp apple bourbon (I use E&J) to really carry that fruit flavor through the drink.
And I used whiskey because the only alcohol I ever mention in The Legionnaire is a whiskey imported from the kingdom of Taezhali, south of Kaizia, that General Nakti is particularly fond of.
Thank you to everyone who stuck around to read about why I’ve chosen these ingredients. I had a lot of fun experimenting with flavor combination while working on this drink and trying to find something that matched the overall vibes of the novel in the form of an alcoholic beverage.
The Legionnaire
Saiden, a Blood-Cursed legionnaire—blessed by both the God of Life and Goddess of Death—is a paradox. Called both “death-bringer” and “world-ender,” she is surprisingly careful about taking lives and proving herself to be a monster. Torn between her loyalty to her queen and the need to protect her people, Saiden struggles to decide who she is going to be in a world that has already cast her aside.
Queen Loralei is hiding the fact that she’s been blessed by the God of Life while navigating the manipulative and dangerous landscape of ruling a kingdom. When she discovers a mysterious prisoner in her dungeons, she begins to unravel a complicated plot that shadows her reign and would change the course of history.
Mozare, gifted by the Goddess of Death with the powers to control shadows, is hiding lots of secrets in the dark. As Saiden’s legionnaire partner, he would do everything to protect her—even if that means killing the queen she swore to protect to save her from a fate worse than death.
With friends and enemies becoming indistinguishable from each other, can these three individuals survive long enough to fulfill their destinies without losing those closest to them, or will their missions irreparably ruin them—and possibly the entire kingdom?
